Blogtember: A Post a Day Challenge

Friday, August 30, 2013

Hi all! I know I never post on Friday's but I am super excited to tell you about a blogging challenge I am going to participate in. It's called Blogtember and the awesome Jenni from Story of My Life Blog dreamed it up. (You really should check out her blog she is a wonderful photographer.)

Anyway the gist of the challenge is Jenni has provided writing prompts for each week day in September. There are no hard and fast rules. It's just a participate if you want sort of thing. I decided to participate because some of the posts are more get to know you and personal posts. I feel like lately I have been trying to put on this persona of everything is perfect and life always goes according to plan. Well it's not and it doesn't. So comeback next Tuesday so you can learn more about the face behind Our Pemberley.

And in case you want to participate as well here are the topics:

Tuesday, Sept. 3: Describe where or what you come from. The people, the places, and/or the factors that make up who you are.

Wednesday, September 4: If you could take three months off from your current life and do anything in the world, what would you do? (bonus points for fun photos from Pinterest, but don't forget to cite the source!)

Thursday, September 5: Pass on some useful advice or information you learned and always remembered.

Friday, September 6: A story about a time you were very afraid.

Monday, September 9: Take this short personality test and respond to your results. (at the end, find the detailed profile of your personality account - click "click to view" under "You" and "self awareness and personal growth." You can even google your type and find more info on it!)

Tuesday, September 10: Describe a distinct moment when your life took a turn.

Wednesday, September 11: Share links to your favorite online shops, preferably with a few photos of your favorite items in each shop.

Thursday, September 12: Discuss ways that blogging or social media has changed you.

Friday, September 13: A self portrait

Monday, September 16: Write a public love letter to someone in your life. (It doesn't necessarily need to be romantic.)

Tuesday, September 17: A memory you would love to relive.

Wednesday, September 18: Only photos

Thursday, September 19: Creative writing day: write a (very short) fictional story that starts with this sentence: "To say I was dreading the dinner party would be the understatement of the century."
The story does not necessarily need to have a conclusion - you can leave your readers wishing for more!

Friday, September 20: React to this term: comfort.

Monday, September 23: A "life lately" post. What you're up to, how you're feeling, how you're doing on your goals, etc. Bonus points for great photos!

Tuesday, September 24: Review a book, place, or product.

Wednesday, September 25: Write about a time you screwed up - a mistake you made.

Thursday, September 26: Go to a coffee shop. Order a favorite drink. Write about what makes you happy and what makes you sad. Or write about anything you'd like! Bonus points for including a photo from the coffee shop. (I recommend downloadingOmmwriter and bringing headphones along!) *if you can't make it to a coffee shop, at least leave your usual space and write someplace new.

Friday, September 27: An anonymous letter to your Facebook friends. Be as snarky as you'd like. (but don't include people's real names.)

Monday, September 30: Share a photo of something old. Maybe something that has personal history for you, that was passed down to you, and that has special meaning to you. Tell us about it and why it's special.

Join me next TUESDAY, September 3rd,  for #BLOGTEMBER :)

Wardrobe Wednesday

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

So I think I almost forgot how to write one of these. Its been so long. Anyway, last week was my mother in law's birthday so we headed to Beaufort to take her out to dinner on Thursday. (A few days late but hey its the thought that counts right?) So this is what I wore for the drive/birthday dinner.

Outfit details:
Scarf: Target (goodwill 3.99)
Shirt: Forever 21 (goodwill 3.99)
Jeans: Lucky (Community Thrift 5.99)
Shoes: Target 4.99
Total Outfit Cost: 18.96
(So a complete outfit for under 20 bucks that's almost unheard of.)

I am finding myself thinking more and more that my entire outfits are thrifted. This used to mean I had put thought into selecting each thrifted item. Now it means I just grabbed something from my closet. I think this is a good thing but in saying this I am going to have to slow down on purchasing any clothing. I think I need to wear through what I have and see what I think I am missing before buying anything else. Recently it has become just buying because its such a great deal and not thinking about whether I need something or not. So as you can imagine my closet is getting pretty full and there are things with tags that I have yet to wear. As of right now I think I am putting myself on thrifting restriction. No more clothes (thrifted or new) for the month of September!

Sounds great in theory I guess we will see if I uphold my end of the bargain. Hope everyone is having a fantastic week and remember it
is halfway over!

We're Back. . .

Monday, August 26, 2013

Thank you guys so much for being understanding about my little two week almost month long break. It was much need and appreciated. Life has finally returned to almost normal. Jose started classes back on Monday so I guess that will make it completely normal for us. Him in school and me the law school widow.

Anyway enough moping! Today I wanted to share with you what has been going on for the past two weeks. As some of you may know Jose spent the summer in Washington state interning with the Navy JAG Corps. (Most of you probably guessed this by the random Seattle trip post.) As to how he wound up in WA state its a long story (remind me and I will share it sometime) but we made it through with only minor meltdowns. I'll let you guess who had meltdowns (all fingers point to me). But the main reason for my posting today is that I wanted to share with you the first half of our cross-country road trip.

The Bacon in the Northwest was amazing. Perfectly cooked and thick cut.

So you know the giant Jesus in Rio de Janeiro? Well Montana had its own version.

In order to eat a little healthier and to save money we had a cooler packed with lunch supplies and snacks. This is one of our many lunch stops.

We also made time to stop at goodwill's across the country. We like to call it thrift across America. (I think we just found the next reality tv show!)

This is the first hotel we stayed in. It was right outside of yellowstone. The following pics are of the most adorable wild west town.

Jose tried to toss me in the pond.

Our Room

The Doberman Pincher deer we saw. I think it was called a Pronghorn.

Isn't this little guy just adorable. He posed like that for my picture.

You see Jose drove out there originally and we thought how fun would it be if I flew out there at the end and we drove back together. And we were right! It was awesome! We made several stops along the way and took our time coming back. I think it took us eight or nine days to get back to Chucktown. Anyway here is the photographic evidence that we went through Washington, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and of course Yellowstone.

Come back on Thursday to see the rest of our fabulous trip. I may have taken just a few photos (like almost 1000). I think I may have a problem. What did you think? Have you ever driven cross-country? If so did you take the northern route, southern route or just go straight across? I love to hear from you guys so leave a comment (I read them all)!
