A Delicious Homemade Bread Recipe
Friday, December 14, 2012
Today I finally got around to making some homemade bread. I found this recipe a few weeks ago and have been itching to make it since then. My past experiences with bread making have not turned out so well but this time I finally got it! If you are interested in trying it out for your self then here is the link to the recipe: http://penniesandpancakes.blogspot.com/2012/10/how-to-make-homemade-bread-step-by-step.html
A Merry Hipster Christmas and Giving Back
Monday, December 10, 2012
So life has been hectic around these parts as I am sure it has been for most of you. With the holidays always bring such joy but also so many commitments. One of these days I will learn that its okay not
to fit everything in and that Christmas doesn't have to be picture perfect. (Or decorations do not have to be up and gleaming the day after thanksgiving.) Anyway that is not what I wanted to share with you guys today. Well some about decorations but also about a chance Jose and I had to give back to the community yesterday.
Jose and I have always wanted to participate in Habitat for Humanity and yesterday we got our chance! Even though we had to be up at six am on a Saturday it was completely worth it. For those of you unfamiliar with habitat for humanity I would encourage you to go here and learn about it. It is an excellent faith based organization. Yesterday we were working on a house that is not far from being complete. We were insulating and hanging drywall on the ceiling. Hanging drywall is no small task and our arms are letting us know that today. Although we could only participate half the day (back to the too many commitments not enough hours thing) it was a wonderful experience and one I hope to repeat! Also makes me excited that I know how to hang drywall now. Another home improvement skill checked off the list.
Another thing we did yesterday was build our Christmas tree. (Yes you read that correctly, I said build.) About a week ago, Jose found an image online of a book Christmas tree. This was not a Christmas tree with books hanging from it, but a tree made entirely of books. You at this point may be thinking wow that sounds awesome but I do not have anywhere near enough books. If you are thinking that then you are probably normal and do not have the equivalent of a small library located in your home. Jose and I love to read as well as we love books in general. So, we may have a slight hoarding problem when it comes to books, because as much as I would love to say this tree depleted our bookshelves it did not. We still have full shelves of books! Anyway I am in love with our unconventional and dare I say it hipster Christmas tree.
I hope you have made it all the way through this post. I know its a long one! In saying all of this what community projects have you participated in? Anybody going for an unconventional Christmas tree this year? We would love to hear about it!

I know I promised two posts a week a few weeks ago, but honestly we have done nothing but normal day to day things for a few weeks now. No new house projects to speak of and nothing super exciting to share in our day to day. Today though I just wanted to write and see what your thoughts were on decorating before Thanksgiving.

Now I am normally of the camp that says Christmas season begins the day after Thanksgiving not a moment before. However this year I have the itch to start decorating. Now I know some of you are thinking its only a week so what is the big deal if there is a tree and lights up a week beforehand. For me though I feel as if it would be breaking some universal law that says Thanksgiving is its own holiday and needs to be celebrated before the decorations go up.

Sorry guys that we have been M.I.A since last week. I meant to do a wrap up of our 31 days challenge and tell you guys what it was like to blog for 31 days straight. So I plan to do that now with a promise to go along with it.
What was it like to blog for 31 days straight? DIFFICULT! More difficult that I could have ever thought. As I have said before I work night shift and Jose is an employee of the school as well as a student so free time is not something we have a lot of and keeping up with posting every day just got the best of us. However, saying all that I am so glad we did this challenge. Not only is our guest room habitable but our office can now be used for crafting, sewing, and officing (my awesome made up word).
This challenge also showed us that our lives are too busy to keep up with blogging everyday. This is where the promise part comes in. . . We promise to post at least two times a week from here on out. Things may not always be about our home as we want this to be a time capsule of our first home as well as wedded life.
I hope you guys that have found us through 31 days challenge will continue to stick around. It has been wonderful hearing from people we do not know in real life. Anyway I feel this post is getting wordy so lets move on. We just wanted to say a quick thanks for sticking out the 31 days and all its craziness.
If you are a blogger, how often do you blog? Was it difficult as first to get a topic in everyday, week, month? We would love to hear about it.
This is my contemplative mood. |

Day 27-30: Rule #1: Cardio, Cardio, Cardio (even if there are gale force winds)

Yesterday was a long day for Jose and I. We each did 5ks (Jose for the first time). The day started out early with my 5k at eight and ended late with his at five. A fun fact about the early morning 5k was that hurricane sandy decided to make an appearance and my run was at the beach. So I have to say that this was a very memorable run to say the least. Also this was memorable because it was one of my coworkers first 5k's and she did awesome! Since I have done 5ks before I am going to let Jose tell you about his experience with his first 5k. (His was also more interested since it included zombies.)
So I survived my first 5k. It wasn't even the zombies that almost killed me it was the running, however as far as first 5k's go I think I did alright. My race was the rUNDEAD 5k with zombies trying to attack me in the Charlestown Landing County Park. I didn't really think about it beforehand but my first 5k turned out to be a trail run complete with obstacles. I was uninformed there would be hills and they were not even that big, but while running they seemed unconquerable. It was a nice run along the marsh, over some hay bales, and through a few old barns. This was a good first 5k because I now know I have a great deal of prepping before the rugged maniac run in March.

I also want to give a huge thank you to Charity for making me run/go to the gym on days I didn't want to go. Thanks Charity I love you very much.
Hope everyone has had a great weekend.
