4th of July and Summer Wreath

Monday, July 1, 2013

Happy Monday All! This week is a super exciting one for me. I finally get to spend some much needed time with the hubby! Today I just wanted to give you guys a quick run down of my newest door adornment. I made a wreath for the fourth of July and rest of summer. This is the first wreath I have made that I am really proud of. (Most of the time I feel like they turn out alright but not as I envisioned them.)

So anyway I wanted to give you guys a quick tutorial so you can whip up a wreath just in time for your 4th of July celebrations!

Materials Needed:

1 14 or 16 inch wreath form (I used the straw ones from AC Moore)

1 spool of nautical looking rope (mine is from Lowe's and can be found in their twine section)

2 small American flags

1 spool of coordinating ribbon. (mine is from Walmart)

1 button

Hot glue gun

glue sticks

Directions:

Step 1: place a small amount of hot glue onto the wreath form (leave the plastic on the wreath if you buy the straw one) place the end of your rope into the glue and begin wrapping.

Step 2: Wrap as much as you can (periodically placing glue to keep it steady). I had to cut my rope every so often in order to keep from large gaps forming.

Step 3: Once you have wrapped your entire wreath form you are ready to create the flower/bow. I would love to say there is some technical way to do this but I just played around with the ribbon until I like the shape. I looped it back and forth until I had a sort of flower bow shape.

Step 4: Hot glue your flower/bow onto the wreath. This where I decided to add the button. I think it really completed the look so I just rummaged around in my sewing supplies for a button I liked.

Step 5: Now I just placed the ends of my two flags down into my rope and this was secure enough that they are not going anywhere.

Step 6: Cut a small piece of your left over ribbon and hot glue the ends together around your wreath form. This will be used to hang your wreath.

Now just hang your new creation and enjoy all the amazing compliments you get at your 4th of July soiree.

I would love to see your completed wreaths if  you decide to make one. Just send me a picture at ourpemberly (at) gmail (dot) com and I will put them up here on the blog!
